Water Saving Tips
The typical daily water use for a small garden Australian household with 4 occupants is 475 litres. The efficient water use for the same household is 393 litres a day.
WELS Water Rating Imgae

To help you choose the right bathroom solutions for your lifestyle and ensure maximum efficient water use all Ideal Standard toilets and tapware highlight the specific WELS Rating.

WELS is Australia's water efficiency labelling scheme. It allows you to compare the water efficiency of different products. The rating system has up to 6 stars with the more stars the more efficient. However anything over 3 stars is a good start and a big difference on what was available before the scheme.  The label also shows a water consumption or water flow figure.

For more information on WELS please click here and be taken directly to the WELS website.

Here are some more ways in which you can reduce water consumption without too much effort :

  1. Turn the tap off when you clean your teeth.
  2. Wash vegetables in a bowl rather than under a running tap.
  3. Keep a jug of water in the fridge so you do not have to run the tap until it goes cold.
  4. If you buy a new toilet consider a dual flush model, these use about 3 litres on the lower flush and 4.5 on the full flush.
  5. Do not use your toilet to flush away cotton wool balls etc, they should go in the bin.
  6. Fix dripping taps.
  7. A shower can use less water than a bath but only up to a point. Ideally you should use a normal shower rather than a power shower and only spend about five minutes in there.
  8. Always run the washing machine with a full load so that you do fewer cycles per week. Also be aware that most half load functions are relatively inefficient as they use more than half the water of a full load.
  9. Similarly, if you have a dishwasher, only run it when it is full. And do not rinse the plates under a tap first - dishwashers are designed to deal with dirty plates.
  10. After washing up by hand, you can throw the dirty water on the garden.
  11. If you are buying new appliances, try to go for those with the best water efficiency rating.
  12. Install a water tank to gather rainwater.
